Maizic Smarthomes – Privacy Policy

Welcome to Maizic Smarthomes ("we", "our", or "us"). This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you visit https://www.maizic.com, use our smart camera apps including Maizic Ask (the "App"), or connect Maizic-compatible Wi-Fi cameras to your home or business.

By using our website, apps, or services, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect:

  • Personal Information: Name, email, shipping address, phone number (collected via Google Sign-In or at website checkout)
  • Payment Information: Securely processed via trusted third-party gateways (PayU, Razorpay, Stripe). We do not store card or bank details.
  • Technical Data: IP address, browser type, device model, OS version, cookies
  • Usage Data: Pages visited, app interactions, order history, crash logs (via Firebase Analytics + Crashlytics)

2. Camera, Microphone, Photos and Audio

The Maizic Ask app accesses the following sensitive data strictly for app functionality:

  • Camera (android.permission.CAMERA): Used to display the live video stream from your Maizic-compatible Wi-Fi camera on your phone. We never record or upload your camera feed to our servers without your explicit action.
  • Microphone (android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO): Used for the two-way intercom feature, so you can speak through your camera. Audio is transmitted directly between your phone and your camera; we do not record or store it on our servers.
  • Photos and videos: When you tap "Record" or "Snapshot" inside the app, the resulting media is saved only to your phone's local storage. Files are not transmitted to Maizic servers unless you explicitly choose the optional cloud backup feature (Maizic Cloud).

3. Face Recognition Data

Maizic Ask includes on-device face recognition for the "Known Faces" feature. All face detection and embedding generation runs entirely on your phone. Face embeddings (mathematical vectors representing faces) are stored only in the local app database on your device.

We never upload, sell, or share your face data with any third party — including Maizic itself. You can delete face data at any time via the app: Known Faces → Forget Person.

4. Location Data

  • Approximate location (android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): Requested only during initial camera setup so the app can scan for nearby Wi-Fi camera hotspots (SSIDs starting with MV, IPCAM, or MAIZIC). We do not track your location for any other purpose, do not store location history, and do not share location data with third parties.

5. Notifications and Background Services

  • Push notifications (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to alert you to motion events, anomalies, and camera-offline status detected by your camera.
  • Battery optimization exemption (optional): Used to keep periodic background workers running on Indian OEM phones (Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo) so the Journal stays updated even when the app is closed.

6. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Process and fulfill your product orders
  • Provide camera live view, playback, alerts, and AI features
  • Communicate with you (order updates, customer support, security alerts, promotions)
  • Improve our website, app, services, and product offerings
  • Detect and prevent fraud
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements

We do not use your camera, microphone, photos, or face data for advertising, AI model training, or sale to any third party.

7. Data Storage and Retention

  • On-device data (camera footage saved locally, face embeddings, app settings) remains on your phone until you delete it or uninstall the app.
  • Cloud-uploaded clips (only if you opt in) are stored on encrypted Cloudflare R2 storage with 48-hour default retention. You can request earlier deletion at any time.
  • Account data (email, name) is retained as long as your account is active. You can request deletion via the app or by emailing contact@maizic.com.

8. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with:

  • Payment providers (PayU, Razorpay) — for transaction processing only
  • Shipping carriers and fulfillment partners — name and address for delivery
  • Cloud infrastructure providers (Google Firebase, Cloudflare R2) — for authentication, analytics, and optional cloud backup of clips
  • Marketing platforms (with your consent only)
  • Legal authorities if required by law

We never share your camera footage, microphone audio, or face data with anyone outside your authorized account.

9. Data Security

We protect your data using:

  • HTTPS/TLS encryption for all network communication
  • Local AES encryption for sensitive on-device data
  • Google Firebase Authentication for secure sign-in
  • Regular security audits and updates

Despite our efforts, no system is 100% secure. We will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware of any data breach affecting your account.

10. Cookies

We use cookies on the website to enhance user experience, track usage data, and offer personalized content. You can modify cookie preferences in your browser settings.

The Maizic Ask app does not use third-party advertising trackers.

11. Children's Privacy

Maizic Ask is not designed for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at contact@maizic.com and we will delete it.

12. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and update your personal data
  • Request deletion or restriction of your data (in-app: Profile → Sign Out → Delete Account, or email contact@maizic.com)
  • Opt-out of marketing communications
  • Withdraw consent at any time

All requests are processed within 30 days.

13. Third-Party Services

Maizic Ask uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Firebase — authentication, analytics, crash reporting (Google Privacy Policy)
  • Cloudflare R2 — optional cloud backup (Cloudflare Privacy Policy)
  • PayU / Razorpay — payments, on Play Store version only (see their respective privacy policies)

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. For material changes, we will notify you via email or in-app notification.
